How to get to Elmore Events Centre

To reach Elmore Events Centre from Melbourne, drive north on the Calder Freeway (M79) towards Bendigo, then take the Midland Highway (B75) through Elmore; the venue is just east of town at 48 Rosaia Road, with entry via Gate 4.

Once you have arrived please follow all directions and signs that indicate the flow of traffic at the event.

Your role at Gilweroo

When you bring your troop to Gilweroo leaders need to ensure that they are organised and that the Patrol leaders are capable of ensuring that their patrols stick together and arrive on time to the designated activity area.

Leaders are expected to assist and are allocated an activity to assist on or run. As a leader you may not be on the activity for the entire weekend, but we will ensure that you are allocated an appropriate number of times on the roster.

Activities will run from Saturday morning to just prior to closing parade on Sunday, stopping only for lunch on Saturday (45 minutes) and overnight on Saturday/Sunday. Leaders will be expected to gather at their assigned activitiy 30 minutes prior (7:30am) to determine how the activity is run, add names to the roster, and become familiar with safety requirements. Venturers will be assigned to assist with activities on an as-needed basis - please remember they are assisting and not running the activity.

As you will be required to leave your campsite early to familiarise yourself with the activity, please ensure your patrol leaders have been briefed on Friday night, and that your parent helpers are aware of what is required of the patrol leaders and their own role at camp. If Scouts are late or miss an activity that is not your responsibility.

As a result of this it is important that you bring at least one, capable adult helper.

What do adult helpers do?

The key to having a successful Gilweroo is having good adult helpers. Adult helpers remain in the camp area, when leaders are assisting at activities. Their job is to ensure that Scouts are fed and sent on their way at the appropriate time to get to activities.

Adult helpers perform the following duties:

  • Prepare and cook all meals
  • Clean up after meals
  • Ensure Scouts are fed and that patrol leaders know where their scouts are.

Vehicles at Gilweroo

Vehicles will only be permitted on site on Friday night during Bump In, and after the closing ceremony on Sunday.

Vehicle movement during bump-in Friday night will be limited to cars with trailers. The car park next to the main entrance will be used as a drop-off point for Scouts, and Scouts will need to carry their luggage from the car park to their campsite.

Please keep this in mind when packing, ensuring all equipment and food is in the trailer / vehicle towing the trailer.
